Katie Nelms makes Herstory and History!
Katie Nelms 2009 CCS 300 Meter Hurdle Champion

The 2009 Central Coast Section Finals finally got under way in Gilroy and there were lots of fireworks to say the least. On the girls side, LSI's own Katie Nelms (leland) dominated in the 300 meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 43.39.

Having already ran the 100 Meter Hurdles and the 100 Meters,, the 300 Hurdles proved to be quite the challenge. But Katie was in raw form and on cruise control to win her 2nd CCS 300 Meter urdle Title.

Earlier in the competition Katie competed in the 100 Meters against top qualifier Angela Gradiska of Pinewood. Both girls have been running neck and neck brewing a healthy rivalry. But with very little recovery from the 100 Meter hurdles Katie would find it difficult to mustard the energy to challenge her. In the end it would be Gradiska to the tape for the title in 11.76 and Katie in second with a Personal best of 11.95. Both girls being the only two to run under 12 seconds in the Central Coast.

Katie would also compete in the 100 meters hurdles, helping to lead the Chargers to their first team title in school history. Qualifying in the 100, 100H and 300H, Katie will most likely drop the 100 Meters to compete in both hurdle events.

The 2009 CIF-State Track and Field Championships is schedule to kick off this Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6. Not having one of the fasted qualifying times coming in the meet will most likely earn her a fast heat. But she is more than qualified to make the finals as she has the past two years. If her stride pattern can hold up, She has more than enough foot speed to make a run for the state title. Determine more than ever Katie heads out to Clovis for a block buster weekend of fun and excitement.

Good Luck "Katie Cakes" From your Family at LSI ..... with Love, Encouragement and Protection.
