Alexandra Diaz, 100 Meters Hornet Invitational |
SACRAMENTO - In an early season test some of the best in the Big Sky Conference. Athletes assembled in the California Gold rush City of Sacramento. Home of Sacramento State University, the Hornets played host to a weekend of excitement. The meet featured many athletes from Colleges and Clubs around the State.
In her College circuit tour Alexandra Diaz kept on her pace with an Automatic Mark of 12.76. Despite the cold, rain and -1.4 wind reading, Alex showed good early season form. Looking to turn up the heat this season, Alexandra in her second year as a Youth has already brought home a championship in the 2009 Junior Olympic Indoor Classic at 60 meters. She's determined to improve her performance at 100 meters but while boasting a 25.06 in the 200m at last years Youth Nationals she's also looking to join the elusive 24 club in the 200m.
"Alex has made a huge improvement both anatomically and biomechanically, which has help to bring a lot of hidden talent out. It's been a challenge but she's a hard worker, all of my kids are and she has alot more room for improvement if she stays focused"
Teammate Isabelle Connell followed suit by crossing the line in 1:01.10 in the Womens 400 meters. It was enough to boast a Personal Best of almost 3 seconds. Isabelle who ran 2:25.12 in 880 meters at last years 2008 AAU JO National Championships is looking to prove once more that she can compete with the Nations top athletes.
Isabelle Connell, 400 Meters Hornet Invitational |
"Isabelle is a familiar face to many and she's a good competitor. I can't take much credit for her improvements. The talent was there you just have to know how to dig in there and get it out. She has a few learning curves to conquer but she's a 4.0 student off the track so she'll do good on it"
Both Alexandra and Isabelle would come back later in the meet to compete at 200 meters. Though the weather didn't play gracious host to visitors in attendance it wasn't enough to stop these girls from cashing in on hard work. Congratulations to Alexandra and Isabelle for a job well done!
