60 Meters and Running
SAN JOSE - LSI's own Katie Nelms and a Leland High School Sophmore and CCS Hopeful stop by the Los Gatos All Comers this weekend to participate in the last series of outdoor prep season track meets.

Katie is the top ranked CCS returneee in the 300 Hurdles. After a huge season in 2007 Katie looks to keep her momentum going wth some big performances this season.

Dropping down to the 60 meter hurdles Katie quickly jumped to the front to lead the field and pushing to the tape to set a new Personal Record of 8.88 for the win. Her performances continued to improve each time out with a quick win in the open 60 meters sprint and a cruise to victory in the 300 meter hurdles.

Says Coach Hill "This reinforces a lot of things. As a freshman she was overlooked, especially a few of her performances that should have raised an eyebrow. But its a new season and what we've been able to accomplish certainly helps build momentum towards what should be a fantastic season."

Beyond CCS is a possible trip to Ohio where the Outdoor Junior Nationals will be held. Last year Katie competed in the 400 meter hurdles at the USATF Junior Olympics in Los Angeles where she was ranked 6th in the Nation. This year Katie hopes to qualify for the Junior Nationals where she would compete against the best that High School has to offer around the country.

Passion-charged there's no doubt in our mind that were just starting to see the potential of a Junior Elite

"This is not a real surprise to me. Katie is an outstanding athlete that is determined and growing more and more confident each time out. I think its a matter of time before it secures her qualification as the one to watch. In the meantime we'll continue to fly under the radar and reinforce her development and the things we're determined to accomplish" - Coach Hill.

We are LSI, a Culture, a Movement and Learning Speed Intelligently is our motivation.
